Haverford College invites applications for our full-time (37.5 hours per week), exempt, benefits-eligible Research Associate opportunity.

About the Position
Working in the Intersectionality in the Social Mind Lab, the Research Associate assists on an NSF-funded project that takes an intersectional perspective on children’s social categorization. This position is a one year, fixed-term appointment[HS1] . The preferred start date is July 1, 2024.

 

Primary Responsibilities

The Research Associate will primarily be responsible for all aspects of the funded research project including, but not limited to:

Interviewing adults, preschoolers, and school-aged children (which requires weekend work); Collecting and analyzing data from large-scale surveys; Creating and maintaining community partnerships; Designing testing instruments for both adults and children; Training and supervising undergraduate research assistants; Cultivating a team orientation; Fostering a high degree of professionalism among lab members; Working with school and museum administrators; Maintaining compliance with the University IRB; Managing participant recruitment; Maintaining the lab website; Purchasing materials; Developing and maintaining lab procedures; Maintaining a participant calendar scheduling system; Preparing presentations and materials for meetings; Screening and prioritizing mail (including email); Drafting correspondence and other documents; Initiating and editing reports, including financial reports

 

Line of Report: The Research Associate reports to Ryan Lei, Assistant Professor of Psychology.


Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in psychology or a related field within cognitive science

Professional Competencies:
Excellent organizational sklls
Strong writing skills
Ability to multi-task and work independently 
Attention to detail is crucial
Preferred Qualifications

One year or more of relevant research experience, including conducting research with children
Programming experience (e.g., Javascript)
Proficiency with statistical analysis (especially in R)
Prior experience providing support in a lab environment

Special Requirements

Ability to obtain and maintain PA Act 12 background checks
Possession of a valid U.S. Drivers’ License and ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Record Check
Occasional work on weekends conducting interviews
