Job Summary

Behavioral Research Fellows work with different faculty and PhD students at the Kellogg School of Management to work on experimental behavioral research projects. Research duties will vary, but they may span all aspects of the research life cycle. Duties vary from project to project, and may include: reviewing literature, designing experiments, programming surveys or other web-based experiments, testing experiments prior to deployment, scheduling and running experiments alone or with additional research assistants, analyzing experimental results, and/or editing manuscripts. Experiments occur in either a laboratory or an online setting.

We seek applicants who want to apply for a Ph.D. program in social psychology, marketing, organizational behavior, or a related behavioral science field in the pursuit of an academic research career. The ideal candidate will have: (i) exposure to the methodologies and software tools commonly used in psychology experiments; (ii) past experience with research, either as a research assistant or from doing independent research of one’s own and (iii) strong organizational skills and attention to detail. If selected, you will be offered a one-year appointment with a summer start-date, with the ability to renew for one year based on performance.

Successful candidates will have completed at least a bachelor’s degree by the employment start date. Your application must include a cover letter. In that letter, briefly describe your academic career goals and how a predoctoral appointment at Kellogg will serve those goals. If there are particular Kellogg faculty you want to work with, please mention them in the letter as well.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with faculty, PhD students, and Research Support staff to understand the experimental conditions, sampling, and measurements necessary for each research project.

  • Schedule and recruit subjects for studies.

  • Set up the laboratory environment for experimental session, monitor session progress, and debrief participants as needed.

  • Manage consent and compensation documentation for participants.

  • Keep financial records and related administrative duties.

  • Assist researchers with experimental design and pre-testing.

  • Develop surveys using Qualtrics.

  • Perform statistical analyses on the experimental data, and produce tables, figures, or other similar research outputs.

  • Assist in drafting or revising sections of manuscripts.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university, leading to a bachelor’s or higher degree.

Required Competencies

  • A long-term interest in pursuing research in social psychology, marketing, organizational behavior, or a related behavioral science field.

  • Prior experience working as a Research Assistant or conducting one’s own original research.

  • Experience recruiting subjects for online studies using a platform such as Mechanical Turk or Prolific.

  • Experience using statistical software packages such as SPSS, Stata, R, etc.

  • Outstanding attention to detail and organizational skills.
